Kamata is enabling access to reliable and affordable energy, through power theft detection and control.
Electricity theft contributes to more than $30M financial annual loss to Uganda's main electricity distribution company. This translates to gross power network unreliability, increased electricity tariff, limited disposable revenue for grid extension that ultimately affects energy access to otherwise innocent businesses and households.
Our hardware and software solution, Kamata, detects attempted power theft, reports the occurrence to a remote monitoring software including the GPS coordinates of the place, time, photos and the method of the power theft being employed, all in real time. We sell both hardware units and software at circa $1,000/ hardware unit and software charges of $2/hardware unit per month. Our main customers are electricity utility companies (B2B), with Uganda's leading power distribution company being our initial customer.
Utility companies, especially in Africa, are currently using smart metering technologies to try and curb energy losses and electricity theft. Our Kamata products are a complimentary addition to smart metres and can also replace them with a cost saving of up to $56.7M/year (circa 30% savings) in comparison to existing technologies.
